Equality for the Talented, Essay Example

Introduction

It is already a known fact that the human society is composed of a highly diversified population of human individuals who have been brought up from different backgrounds and thus have been inspired in different levels of interest. The said course of diversity has brought forth a condition that instantiates the manner by which people are considerably dealt with differently according to their capacities, their characteristics and apparently their excellence and talent. The cause behind this is the fact that each individual is identified by the things he can do. His role in the society that he is living in is also dependent on such social definition. There is however a theory on equality that is forced ahead to supposedly create a more satisfying society that could support both the needs of the society and the personal needs of the individuals as well. Shall this particular assumption of equal opportunities be fully welcomed especially under the condition of developing a more progressive community? In the discussion that follows, a distinctive indication of reasoning towards the reality of life and how inequality of opportunities specifically help in defining social progress shall be given particular attention to.

Why the Segregation?

Diversity could either be healthy for a community that functions well under the recognition of the fact that one’s worth depends on how he defines himself according to what he could contribute to the betterment of the life of the community as a whole. With the many talents that are present in a particular community, utilizing each individual capacity properly in the right investment could help a community secure its future since the ‘talented ones’ are able to share their service therefore serving as the backbone towards social and communal development.

Nevertheless, diversity could also become a source of hindrance towards progress. If a community intends to seek to devour the talents that are supposed to be blossoming because of stereotyping and discrimination, healthy diversification of the society may never happen. The willingness of the people to contribute to the progress of the community would depend on how satisfied they are with their own lot. Understandably, if stereotyping and discrimination exists, such condition of satisfaction may not be possible to occur among the members of the society. In this case, the people would rather be hoping to be like others instead of honing their own capacities and defining themselves according to what they can do which others cannot.

Accepting diversity as a part of modern human living is then a must. Giving opportunities for all that has talent is essential. Nevertheless, not all talents could be valued at the same rate of pricing especially if the said talent involves providing service to other members of the community. Due to the diversity that human individuals have, it could be analyzed that the levels of being talented of people between each other also differ in different levels. Hence it should be understood that with such caliber of talents, each individual should be placed in the right position that he needs to be in for him to be able to contribute to the betterment of the community he is enjoined in.

Segregation is then considered healthy as diversity is. Most often than not, it is the segregation of talents that make it easier for the community to make use of the best from what the people could offer. The people, being satisfied that they are able to share their talents and enjoy with their work, are then given a sense of worth, thus are given the chance to enjoy life as it is. Talented people often define their satisfaction according to how much they are able to make remarkable impact to the society based on their ‘gift’. In a way, it defines their being, it gives them a sense of personal meaning that later on transcends to the essence of personal satisfaction.

This argument however does not suggest that segregation should involve discrimination nor stereotyping. In this case, it is suggested that every talent be recognized according to its caliber. People who are able to manage their talents well are able to take on larger roles in the community hence gaining more benefits from their effort. Instead of being a hindrance for one’s growth and personal development, this assumption of segregation or unequal distribution of opportunities for the talented should be able to motivate everyone to strive harder to make sure that their talent does not go unnoticed. It is often through this notion that the creation of small businesses spur out from. People who are highly talented and believe they deserve better than what they get from the market, decide to stand on their own, find their own gist of satisfaction through earning with the use of their talent, and later on ending up to be successful individuals who are able to live their dreams. Yes, along with good talent, one has to have the guts to share it and make sure that it does not go unnoticed nor unused just because of the aim of earning at a regular pace for the sake of economic reasons.

True, living in a world where almost everything is possible, becoming more endowed in developing one’s talents through fully utilizing it shall give individuals the chance to realize their aspirations on their own. People who seem to be too tied with their goals rather than on their dreams may lead good yet unsatisfying lives. Through this, it is suggested that a non-equal form of opportunity given to talented people shall provide a more specific chance of progress for communities where such individuals are thriving. Seeing the situation in a more positive rather than on the negative side of it, individuals who have what it takes to stand alone will be able to realize the real function of their talents which is not bounded by the limitations of being employed in a salary-based institution where they may do a job they might not even like nor are they interested in.

The Argument against the Non-Equality of Talent Exposure

Considering the need to earn, the argument of having an non-equal opportunity for talent exposure as defined in the previous section is challenged strongly. While it is true that realizing a dream based on one’s own application of his talent is satisfying, it is also true that it is not just satisfaction out of one’s fulfillment of personal value that is considered most important at present. Sadly, the impact of the economy with regards the argument of non-equality of opportunities for talented individuals create a definite indication on how people tend to live their lives today.

For instance, a painter, who is just beginning in the industry, may not remain for long especially when he learns that earning through painting is hard to attain especially that it requires more work and more time as need. With this in mind, the painter then applies in an agency to be a clerk. The position he got is highly unrelated to art, and yet it pays. For many people around the globe today, the call of earning money is much lauder than the call of gaining satisfaction from work through applying his talents into work.

Basically, the desire to earn becomes the top priority of individuals today. For so many reasons, applying one’s talent does not immediately mean being able to earn. Hence, the struggle and the change of choices begin to happen. Accordingly, this could be resolved. People who are talented should be placed in what positions they could best use their talents in. This approach would help people to both earn and enjoy work at the same time because the said matters are related to their interests. In relation to such assumption, the being of the people become more enhanced as they are able to fulfill their dreams while earning accordingly. This form of living is however not that easy to attain. Hence, again, it serves as a motivation for the talented ones to find a way to fit in a society that they hope to live in. Fitting in while also remaining unique pays one well especially in becoming a contributor to the progress of the whole community.

Conclusion

Human identity is often defined through balancing the personality of a person in relation to what he can do in life. Everyone has a talent, and yet not everyone is able to use it for personal and social progress. It is because of this that in this discussion, it is considered that unequal opportunity for talented individuals be pursued so as to create a sense of motivation for those who have the talent, to relatively find their place in the communities they are enjoined with. Being able to work and enjoy work at the same time ought to give one the satisfaction he needs in life.
