Ethical and Multicultural Issues, Essay Example

My research question aims to determine whether structural family therapy can be utilized in the same manner for families that have leaders of differing genders. My ethical responsibilities to my participants as a researcher involves ensuring that no harm will come to the families as a result of participating and that their private information will remain protected throughout the research and the presentation of the results. There may or may not be multicultural concerns associated with the research aspect of this project. This is primarily because the family members that will be selected for this particular study should be matched in terms of racial and ethnic demographics. However, it may be important to consider multicultural concerns if this project were to be expanded to understand how structural family therapy can vary for members of different races.

It is important to consider that the structural family therapy and proposed intervention may not be effective for every family that undergoes this process. While it is unlikely that this aspect of family therapy will negatively influence family interactions, it is necessary to consider that this is possible. Therefore, if the family shows that it does not react positively towards the proposed intervention, it would be necessary to have them leave the study and enter therapy of a different type, free of charge, to return the family interactions to the baseline before therapy. The potential benefit of this research is that the families that participate will strengthen their relationships with one another in addition to their ability to communicate effectively.
