Ethical Issues in a Corporate Setting, Essay Example

The second case study again involves ethical issues in a corporate setting.  It is but normal that visiting corporate guests, or in the case at hand, a visiting cutomer, be shown around and made to feel welcome and satisfied.  That is part of of customer social responsibility.  However, when situations in business would necessitate the company, its executives or its employees to perform certain acts that are already beyond their responsibility and worse, that may be considered corrupt or immoral, then it would be not only unethical but downright insulting.

It is not uncommon for some employees or companies to chase their goals or maximize their profits by forgetting the difference between right and wrong. However, this is the reason why even the biggest corporations are now closing down and getting bankrupt. It is therfore necessay that doing the right thing should not be performed at home but even the office.

Corporate social responsibility also includes doing the right thing and if the situation at hand is to be considered, it would be wiser for the company to speak to the independent Southeast Asian agent that though the company would be more than willing to adance whatever expense the visitor would incur, it could not include personal activities especially those which would involve violation of company policies, e.g., advancing expenses involving gambling and escort services.  Surely the visitor would have his own money to spend for such activities. If this will result to the company losing this customer, then so be it.  Many other customers exist, they just need to put in more effort for that. Earning profits would become worthless if it would put one’s ethics and self-respect on the line.
