Pages: 4

Essay

Introduction

Ethics entails learning of what is right or wrong and then correcting something that is wrong to be right. While values such as respect, fairness and honesty which guides us on how we should behave in a business are referred to as Moral values.

Moral and Ethical Issues Faced by Managers

There are a number of moral and ethical issues faced by managers (Byrne, 1988). These are:

Ethics of Accounting and Financial Information

This kind of ethics involves misinterpreting of the financial analysis and the manipulations of the financial markets.

Ethics of human resource management. According to this ethic, everybody has his or her own rights in an organization. The relationship between the employee and employer like the duties and rights is very important in the business. There should be no discrimination or harassment of in an organization.

Ethics of Sales and Marketing

The managers should have the correct trend that attracts many people when they tend to market their products. There should be an involvement of employer and employ. For instance sales and marketing is well done by the media since it can reach to every corner of the nation.

Ethics of Production

This area ensures that the products of a company that are subjected to people have no harm to them. It is now the responsibility of the managers to organize for the preventative technologies in areas where they have more production.

Ethics of intellectual property, knowledge and skills.  Skills and knowledge are valuable, but are difficult to own.  It is not easy to know that is it the company which trained the employee or the employee did it him or herself. If we try to figure out, we might find that the attempts to assert ownership and ethical problems over who should own what arise.

How the Relationship Between Social Issues and Ethically Responsible Management Practices Relates to Family and Personal Issues

Religion is also part of the Family and personal issue. For many companies, we find that the religious belief is based on the ethical judgment. However it is not the basis for arriving at dependable standards of ethics, more than the law is. To clarify the point, a particularly precarious implication which comes as a result of combining decision making with religion provides the decision maker with sort of safety if everything is not understandable within an organization they say that let God be their judge. But for those who are not religious, the term disturbs them and they cannot understand where god is coming in the decision making process. All they keep on asking is that who is god? According to that statement we can see how religion is not a brilliant method for decision making in a company. That is why we call it a personal issue. It has no chance in making of any decision affecting people in an organization. The worse part of all is when the leadership responsibility use religion as part of personal safety for humorless decision making. Many people will not want their leaders to confess to their god while making decisions but to take full absolute responsibility in whatever they are doing since not many of them are religious (Blanchard & Peale,1988). This is a clear indication that leaders should not mix religion with leadership and ethical decision making since many people do not believe that a leader can delegate duties to the other people like gods. Aside, if religion was to be advantage to leadership and decision making, then all the companies would be led by clergy. It was also tried sometimes back by the civilization but it did not work. I hope that I have not gone against any kind of religion. But if you believe that religion is better in company’s decision making, and then it is also good since we understand that through the existence of human kind, everything existed. Besides religion of certain types can be enormously conflict-ridden, which is perceptibly not useful for decision-making entailing diverse groups of people, as commonly arises in today’s increasingly diverse world.

Ethical Dilemma in YMCA National Training Institute as Related to Family and Personal Issues

YMCA is a training institute training students on different courses. Since it is a world wide organization, it comprises of different people coming from different background a religion. A problem occurred in one of its branches in Pakistan. The students were given some assignment do whereby they were to use the computers from the IT laboratory. The student could not forward their work due to lack of internet in the laboratory. They went to report to the principal who probably was a Christian. Instead of the principal acting, on the matter by calling the HOD, he instead rushed and said that “Let God be the control of everything.” The principal was not aware that the majority of them were not religious. Some of the students asked how is God involved with the internet, and who is this god. Is he the HOD of the IT department? The principal could not understand that religion is a personal issue and cannot be used to solve any problem in such an organization. He did not understand that personal issues cannot be used in decision making. Instead, he could have followed the right channel making putting the ball on his on court and see how to solve the problem.

The Legal Aspects That the Management Faced During the Dilemma

For there was no easy solution, it forced the institution to rush to adopt codes of ethics. This also led to addition of ethic courses, hiring of hundreds of consultants through the reinforcement of the students leadership. It forced the students to be prepared with skills on how to decide and solve the problem on their own without involving the staffs within a workplace.

Legalities That Should Have Governed the Decision

The legalities cannot be handled by one person but requires the involvement of all the people within a stakeholder. There should be the participation of the experts in the required field and knowledge of what is to be done. Resolving such an ethical dilemma needs some skills for negotiation as well as the application of the new employability skills which includes, respect for others, ability to work together and honesty. But we get that today businesses have trained those they employ in critical thinking and conflict resolution skills needed for ethical decision making. Also schools are following the same trend by ensuring that all their staffs and students have advanced with the legalities that should be used to govern the decision.

Conclusion

It is important to note that personal issues and family issues should not be involved in an organization whenever the decisions are being made. It is also good for the managers within the company to introduce the entire employees to the code of ethics that helps in the decision making within an organization or a company.
