Pages: 1

Words: 391

Essay

Access to long-term care seems to be a problem for the elderly in general. However, it is even more difficult for minority populations. Why do you think this is true? Be sure to ground your rationale in evidence

M = in massaging this ethical long term care issue among the elderly population, especially, minorities requires the health care administrator to evaluate the circumstances, which place minorities in that category. Most of them if not all are uninsured, which prevents access to quality health care in America; they are poor and often have been diagnosed with the most serious illnesses.

O =  An outline of options would reveal that the  health administratormust work closely with social services to enable  long term care coverage for this patient or pateints affected . At first mreferral to a social worker r must be made.  This service will educate clients/pateints regarding their inaccessibility from an individual basis.

R = A review of the ethical principles’ criteria allowing access to long term the administrator must understand that the elderly and minorities have a right to health care in the same way as the rich and affluent. In reality no one should be denied quality care due to their social status. While these ethical principles may be written in ethical codes of conduct they are often not activated in real world settings.  As such, re-enforcing the right to basic health care irrespective of age, social or immigration status is an important ethical position to take in this situation.

Besides, there is a moral obligation to the elderly who have labored in the society during their youth. Based on their failing health they are often discriminated and considered ineffective in the society. Therefore, from an ethical standpoint they ought to be a privileged group, but American health care system has made them minorities in its own sense. Medicare does not cover long term care. This is the only option along with advantage plans many elderly have to pay form long term care.

A = The decision of enabling  the elderly  and minorities access tom long term care through social service intervention must be followed through and upheld by the health care administrator.

L = In looking back at the decision in my opinion this is the most effective way to resolve denying an elderly or minority long term care due to lack of  adequate insurance coverage
