European and Asian Management Styles, Research Paper Example

Research Paper

Various countries of the world have their own social don’ts and do’s. It is at most critical to understand them in order to develop a successful and strong business relationship. Business globalization doesn’t necessarily imply you can ignore them. We shall take a look at one Asian and another European culture and their implications in business management.

Taking china, it is essential to understand how to make business decisions. Sometimes it is more important to know family relationships than having to know the company’s organizational structure. The interaction between partners in a business venture is far more important than having written documents. In china, business is implied to be relationship based, not transaction based. Avoid handing things in fours since the number four is a homonym for ‘death’ in Chinese. The business hours here are from 0800-1800hrs.

Unlike the Chinese business management protocols, the UK has different etiquette in business’ dealings. Since World War 2, there has been a cultural diversity from formerly a homogenous one. Business meetings must be very punctual. The titles should be differentiated between the people. Only clergy and medical doctors use their academic or professional titles in business. It is important to move to the basis of first-name only until the invite. Most of the people use Mr., Mrs. or Miss followed by their surname. Only knighted persons are referred to as ‘Sir’. The business attire should be conservative in nature.  The UK has no laws restricting the business hours from Monday through Saturday.

It is essential to observe these business’ etiquette when dealing with the Chinese and the British in your project. Decisions should be made in such a way that no member of both cultures is offended in any way. This would ensure the smooth running of your project.
