Evangelism, Research Paper Example

One of the highlights of Christ’s process of evangelism is that of his willingness to reach out to people wherever and whenever it was possible. He gave importance to the manner by which he was able to distinctively affect the people around him through reaching his hand out to them whenever he can, even though sometimes, the situations may provide unlikely possibilities thus catching his listeners at a surprise. One example would be the time when he preached to the Samaritan woman who was not there to listen to him [the fact is, she did not even know him], and yet she realized that listening to him was a rather important point of her being and thus such willingness to listen gave her blessings.

As for my part, in the desire of copying Christ’s pattern of witnessing, I decided to evangelize (1) in the park where I usually jog in the morning; (2) at work [during lunchtime]; and (3) in a social network’s chat room during my free time. I realized that these three instances provided me with the best opportunities I need that lead me to a particular sense of realizing my point of Christian ‘usefulness’ for my brothers and sisters who are bothered by this world’s trying ends.

During the first point of evangelization, I saw a woman who was seemingly okay at first. She was sitting on a bench in the park just staring at nowhere. She was dressed for a jog and had her earplug on one ear. I noticed that she was crying. She saw me threw a glance at her and when she looked, I took the opportunity to smile, which she positively responded to. I then took the chance to ask if I could sit beside her. She might have been waiting for someone to talk to so she told me her concerns once I sat with her. I listened intently and carefully asked her to read Philippians 4: 6,7 (Do not be anxious). After which, she agreed to pray with me and accept Christ. It was a good day, and she thanked me for listening and sharing the scriptures with her as well as praying to Jesus with her.

The second point of evangelization occurs at work when my colleague asked me what he should do about his family and how he should handle all the stresses that they are seemingly giving him. He mentions how depressed he has become because of this matter. I then used the same scriptural excerpt from Philippians and discussed with him how Christ himself had a family to feed [his apostles], but his constant belief on seeking first the kingdom actually preserved him and the life of his apostles even that of their listeners throughout the years of their journey. The results were acceptable as he agreed to pray with me to accept Christ in his heart even before we went back to work from our lunch break.

The third point of evangelism involved a stranger whom I have just met in a social network chat room. She said she saw my profile picture, checked by profile account and realized that I was the one she was looking for. She mentioned how it was so hard for him to deal with her current situation. She is sick at home and has been in bed for two months now. As I was reading through her messages, I decided to respond with the same presentation of scriptural choice. I asked her to give me a voice-call and we prayed together for her acceptance of Christ’s being in her heart. She cried while we were praying and hoped that I would continue talking to her in a regular manner to give her strength.

All these points of evangelism, although I used by favorite scriptures from Philippians on all of them, taught me how seemingly hopeless some people have become. But their willingness to accept counsel from the bible and their willingness to accept Christ in their hearts all made the difference.
