Essay

Abstract

The study of behaviour is often related to the assumption of how one’s background affects one’s being. The background of one points out to the elements that specifically involve the environmental, social as well as the familial aspects of one’s life that specifically influences the way a person thinks, decides and defines his own being. Understanding how this matter affects the consequential maturity of a person specifically defines the deciding impact from which the individual is to develop from. Carrying the need to manifest development is an important aspect of human progress. In line with this, there are instances when deluded illusions of a good life become the subject of desire that a person becomes frustrated about. Once that particular frustration becomes the subject of focus, it could be analyzed how one becomes overly consumed to the point of actually committing a crime.

How does one develop such an attitude towards a desire that specifically becomes mirrored as to how he treats others? Cathy Spatz Widom explores this particular issue through studying about Understanding Child Maltreatment and Juvenile Delinquency. In this research, she notes how the developmental background of children at a young age specifically creates a mark on their personality and later on serves as a guide on how they are to mature in their later years. Through the use of a comparative research, Widom creates a definitive ground that correlates the maturity pattern of individuals who have delinquency cases with those others who do not have and create a behavioural definition that creates a patterned identification on the why[s] and how[s] of one’s development affecting the thinking and the attitude he incurs especially relating to the incurrence of a particular criminal case.
