Examples of Turnover Killing an Organization, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 385

Essay

The turnover of personnel has always been a primary concern for organizational administrators.  The excessive rates of staff turnover has been an issue that has plagued human resource managers. The thesis question is: In an unhealthy economic period, when the job market is saturated with highly qualified job seekers, why should your organization still pay close attention to employee turnover?  In order to become proficient at administrating conflict, the manager’s ability of being able to diagnose the root of the problem is required. The sources of high employee turnover could be structural or nonstructural. Structural sources have the outcome of the problem occurring repetitively. Non- structural sources occur once (Raines, 2013).

Elevated indexes of employee turnover in an organization have the outcome of being detrimental to the organization with regards to the increased indirect and direct costs incurred. The output of the services and the products are always affected by high employee turnover. The direct costs include the recruiting and training of the new employees. The indirect costs that are incurred by the organization in situations involving high employee turnover include decreased employee morale, tension placed on the existing employees and the attrition of social capital (Ashe- Edmunds 2015; Long et al., 2012).

The solution to high employee turnover is research on behalf of the human resources department.  The manager should be able to identify employees who have the habit of job hopping by their resumes. In addition, the manager should perform follow up with regards to asking the employees what was the causal attribute of their departing from the organization.  Finally, incentives should be provided to managers who are able to effectively encourage and retain the members of the staff.  Issues that include discrimination and bullying should be addressed. The management should maintain an open door policy with regards to addressing employee concerns (i.e., sexual harassment, bullying) with confidentiality (Saez, 2015).
