Exploitation on Third World Nations, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 288

Essay

In its context, ‘The Committee’ is a satirical novel by Sonalla Ibrahim exploring the controversial ideology of capitalism that was mainly advanced in third world countries. The author uses Egypt his home country, to highlight the problems that came with westernization and globalization on poorer nations, particularly Egypt. While employing satirical mode, Ibrahim manages to intertwine outstanding events, which exposes the readers to humiliation that was meted on African nations, in the name of global capitalism.

From my own observation, the use of humor by Ibrahim in his literary work is geared towards exposing the humiliation and undisputed domination of foreigners on African nations. He uses a protagonist to bring to the fore, the disturbing frisking meted on Africans while seeking for jobs in companies owned by whites. It leaves the reader wondering why a committee vetting job applicants would conduct a rectal examination. The clownish behavior portrayed by the anonymous protagonist shows the manner in which humanity is disrespected especially by being forced to face the committee in nudity. This act depicts the superpower tendency third world countries persevered. Ibrahim exposes the multinational companies as evil and disrespectful of humanity.

In my own opinion, African leaders should cease to seek financial gains from western companies through shunning globalization arrangements. Considering that the author emanates from an Islamic background, it is a taboo to touch some parts of the body as seen during the interview. Consequently, it comes out clearly that African cultures were ignored and deemed unfit by the whites. The submission of African countries to the western nations should be stopped to avoid exploitation. As seen in the novel, capitalist nations are only interested in their own benefits while issuing fake promises on funding developments among other things.
