Eye Witness Account of the Famine, Research Paper Example

Research Paper

The Ukraine famine, also known as the Holodomor, was one of the greatest disasters that hit the European country leaving tens of thousands of people dead. The dangerous disaster that hit the country between 1932 and 1933 forced many researchers to conduct the possible origin or the causative agents of the deadly famine. There are several sources of information regarding the famine. This study explores the eyewitness account based on the famine using the provided guidelines.

Eyewitness is one of the methods employed by many investigators concerning the war. Most eyewitnesses used initials such as KGB, GPU and NKVD. These initials were mainly from police officers, soldiers and other individuals who lived and went through the famine. The eyewitnesses were affected by the famine directly. The information provided by the first eyewitness from the region of Poltava was relevant. When the famine stated the eyewitness was 17 years old and he/she records the information as a form of unfortunate experience that she underwent with his brother and family members. Some aspects of history do not ring true as far as humanity is concerned. The fact that mothers were hungry and ended up eating their children seems to be a kind of fallacy (Commission of the Ukrainian Famine 283). This is beyond the normal behavior. With this, I partly beg to disagree with eyewitness account as a source of historical information. This source also provides some contradictory elements. There were special trains that transported secretly thousands of dead bodies. At the same time, other eyewitnesses state that passengers collected food to feed the hungry. The two statements are contradictory since one eyewitness says that transported corpses whereas the other one saying train had passengers who fed the hungry (Commission of the Ukrainian Famine 283). The source has included the information learned in 50 years between 1933 all the way to the time of the interview in 1990. It has described the progress that Ukrainian government has gone through to reinstate Ukraine to its original status.  Graphic description tends to be convincing based on the way they are detailed. The make the source more accurate. All questions are information-oriented. They are directed towards eliciting of facts only. Some are leading questions.
