Faith Journey, Interview Example

Family is often one’s first contact with faith and usually plays an important role in one’s relationship with religion over time. My journey had quite an unusual start in this regard because my parents divorced when I was only three years old. As a result, religion was mostly absent in my life throughout my childhood. I don’t even remember how I first became aware of the concept of god and faith but I am certain it happened outside home.

Life was tough in high school because I didn’t have the stable family background like many of my fellow students. At this stage, I was not particularly religious but would seek comfort in religion from time to time when the going may get tough. But I had made up my mind to carve a future quite different from the past. I entered college with the intention of building a better future yet I was uncertain regarding my future career path.

My relationship with faith grew stronger in college because I reasoned I could not have beaten so many odds without divine blessing. But my real relationship with faith only began after God responded to my prayer for help with a purpose in life by sending a student speaker from the College of Education. It was my senior year of college and the speech inspired my so much I enrolled in Educational Certification Program the very next day.

Today, I am a teacher and my students have different personalities and come from different backgrounds. Some of them don’t listen to their parents and do not realize how lucky they are. They also remind me that even when you don’t have parents, you have God who looks after you and challenges you to become the best you are capable of.
