Research That Provides Insights About Crime In the City

In Atlanta, crime has increased in recent years according to research and data collected during the Census. This increase has been resulted as result of factors like poverty, education and the demographic surrounding of the area. In Atlanta, its level of crime rate is highest in the whole of Georgia with a percentage of 87% percent on all the crimes committed in Georgia. Which is higher than the national average. Poverty is the main reason that has led to crime in the City being that the young youths are mainly the ones who are involved in crime. Some lack education; hence they cannot acquire jobs, which in return rendered them to have no money to cater to their needs, and therefore, they engage in crime intending to acquire something for themselves. Moreover, not acquiring proper education is also a huge factor that has contributed to crime in that it has made them not to understand the risks that they expose themselves o by indulging in crime. On the other hand, demographic factors search as the population has led to the high crime rate in Atlanta. In the first place, Atlanta is densely populated and also it is a growing city; hence the essence of crime is also an urban indicator Atlanta a demographical hotspot of crime.

Discussion of The Crime Rate in The Assigned Cities

Amongst all the cities in Georgia, Altanta comes first with the highest rate of crime. The crime that has been committed mostly in Atlanta is a crime against property with an average of 4645.5 per every 100,000 people. On the other hand, murder is the crime that does not occur rampantly with an average of 17,7 per every 100,000 people in the whole population (Atlanta Federal Bureau of Investigation).

Contributing Factors to Crime In Atlanta

Throughout history, people have always struggled to come up with various explanations as to why people get involved in crime, in the case of Atlanta concerning the insights above it is much easier to narrow down to the contributing factors into detail. The mains reasons for committing the crime are mainly governed or centered in the middle of; anger, greed, pride, revenge, jealousy and power. Moreover, there is a more careful way of committing a crime with a plan which is governed by the desire to acquire materials possession by trying to increase the gain in the crime and reduce the risks. When one is situated in the city with a high population like Atlanta people will be entangled in the above situations in quite several times and hence the higher crime level in the city since crime is also an urban indicator:

Unemployment and Poverty

Being unemployed in Atlanta has resulted in a lot of property crime which stands to be the highest in the city. This triggers the fact on the people engaging in crime having a motive to acquire material possession since they are idle and also they have no skills that will place them in a position to receive jobs. In most cases, these individuals are the young youths who drop out of school and become hopeless with lives they live and hence resulting in them making decisions of engaging in crime and lacking morals; this is with reference from the Atlanta Magazine.

Policy Changes

To establish the policy changes to curb crime, the Atlanta government considered the fact that every criminal action has its causes, but at least, in the long run, the causes always turn out to be that they could have a similar solution towards reducing crime. Firstly to access the regularities during the concentration of crime, the government fits the concentration of crime regarding based on power, truncated power law and the lognormal exponential which is there to compare the likelihood ratio test of a particular crime. The first policy established as a rehabilitation program for the imprisoned criminals. This is a policy that is aimed ensuring that the inmates do not come back to crime after their imprisonment term, more so when in prison they are taught new skills so as they are in a position to earn money and cater to their needs. In the streets, the police are have established 24 hours patrol in the city to ensure they can guard the whole city. This has increased the number of police so that they are up to the task. Knowing the fact that joblessness is a factor that causes crime, the government has increased the less skilled jobs that require and workforce in the city. An also, it has established blue-collar jobs for the idle and unemployed people in the city.

Overall Impression of the Assignment

This has been such an interesting assignment having to know the data on crime and the different categorical groups of crime. The assignment has greatly helped me to learn and understand more about crime and also get to know many of the contributing factors to it and the necessary policy changes that can be brought across to impact change and reduce crime.
