The classic movie theme is about Ferris Bueller, who is a high school senior that lives in the suburbs that decides to skip school on a beautiful spring day. Ferris wants to stay home from school but needs an excuse to fool both of his parents. Consequently, Ferris fakes an illness which his parents believes him. Ferris had the unique ability to skip class anytime he wants to stay home and the intelligence to get away with it. The movie has an interesting second theme developing because Ferris has two people who constantly try to expose Ferris deception. The two persons opposed to Ferris deception is his sister Jeanie and the high school principal Edward Rooney. The cat and mouse game between the principal and Ferris Bueller highlights the movie.
Satire
The Ferris Bueller move has several different styles which the entire movie is delivered with different satires such as comedy, lying, humor, and deceit. The satire brilliantly discusses characteristics of each character such as the principal as controlling, Ferris self-serving, the sister Jeanie’s jealousy and Cameron as the cynical friend. The different satire was brilliantly sprinkled throughout the movie to ensure the audience understood the point Ferris was trying to make about life.
Slapstick
The movie is filled with slapstick routines such as the facial expressions of Ferris as he narrates the movie talking directly to the audience and the camera. The scene when Ferris is sick he decides to wrap his head in a hot towel so his mother would register his high temperature. The movie was filled with funny lessons by the principal. In addition, Ferris friends that constantly had funny slapstick scenes that made the movie fun to watch. The use of slapstick was a brilliant move by the movie producers because it broke the mode of the typical teen movies with sex, drugs and teenagers experiencing puberty. The slapstick kept the audience involved mixed with the comedic routines ensuring the movie was fun to watch.
Social Commentary
The social commentary about how people live such as never breaking the rules and always go to class versus trying to find the meaning of life as Ferris explains. Ferris believes that students and people are living life like robots never trying to have fun or laugh.
Characters
Ferris Bueller
Ferris Bueller is a charismatic high school senior that is living in the suburbs but wants to have one day to skip school to explore just a little bit of life outside the school. Ferris characters narrates directly to the audience about life, authority, skipping school, and defying the silly rules of the high school environment. Ferris characters is motivated to skip school because the spring day is so beautiful yet people never stop to smell the roses. Ferris character pokes fun at parents who are so gullible when their children are sick and Ferris character talks about that relationship. Ferris character is a master manipulator who uses his manipulating talent on his sister, girlfriend, best friend and anyone who tries to stop him from skipping school for a fun day in Chicago.
Jeanie Bueller
The sister was one of the characters that was jealous of Ferris. She was in disbelief that Ferris had the uncanny ability to fool her parents over and over again without getting caught. The sister does not believe in defying authority at school and home because she is trying to be a good model person. Jeanie eventually becomes a fan of Ferris Bueller becoming fascinated in how he can manipulate any situation with a smile and sincerity. The character was developed very well become she was the nemesis that tried to expose Ferris and her thoughts about Ferris was important to explaining the selfish nature of Ferris.
Edward Rooney
The high school principal Edward Rooney was the nemesis of Ferris Bueller. The principal believed that Ferris Bueller was destroying the fabric of humanity convincing high school students not to respect authority. The high school principal spent the entire movie tracking and dogging Ferris every move. He was determined to catch Ferris in the act of cutting class. The character of the principal conveying a social comment that the principal did not have power outside the school.
Cameron
Cameron is the pessimistic friend but his character is also the slapstick partner that sets up Ferris to deliver punchlines. The pessimistic character is the backdrop to a social commentary. Ferris uses Cameron to show how Cameron has never lived life because he has never driven his dads Ferrari.
Theme
The movies primary theme is the two separate thoughts of the positive thinking Ferris and pessimistic best friend Cameron. Ferris believes that living life to the fullest enjoying everything the world offers because life is just too short to be stressed out. In contrast, Cameron the paranoid friend and Ferris jealous sister, both believe in following the rules and staying in school at all times.
Content
The content of the movie is about Ferris Bueller skipping school to spend a day in the Chicago city with his girlfriend Sloane and his best friend Cameron. The movie explores the meaning of life from the standpoint of a high school senior Ferris Bueller, who is making the argument about why students should skip school and enjoy it without remorse. They embark on a spirited journey to the Chicago city because Ferris believes this trip will lead to personal freedom. Ferris spends part of the movie explaining why they are going to spend one last free day in Chicago before they graduate. Ferris rationalizes why these experiences are necessary before they embark on a new journey to college. Ferris who is very convincing that the moment is now to have fun in Chicago. As result, Ferris convinces his friend to borrow his dads Ferrari, which they drive to spend a fun day in Chicago.
Music
The music was fantastic that displayed different musical talents and groups such as the Smiths song Please, Please, Please and mixing iconic music that everyone would recognize and enjoy. The music that was added to the repertoire of songs was Indie music that was upbeat and fun to the audience. The soundtrack was a classic for years to come because one the iconic songs was the signature sing along “The Beatles Twist and Shout.
