Essay

What is one of the most difficult things you have ever done or experienced? What made it difficult and what did you learn?

The most difficult experience in my life was when I moved from Texas to New York.  My dad had acquired a job in Rochester and the family had to move to New York.  Each family member had to adjust to a new lifestyle and we had to struggle through our own trials. Living in Texas, I had grown up surrounded by people who loved and supported me, with many friends. Therefore, I was not prepared for what awaited me in New York.  From the beginning of school, I was bullied, isolated, and I struggled to make friends. With each concluding school year, I became increasingly depressed. I was feeling lonely and lost, not realizing that the rest of my family were experiencing similar situations and feelings.  Finally, after 3 years of struggling, my mom and dad decided that they needed to make a change. My mom knelt down and said a prayer, asking for guidance. The answer she received was that we all needed to return to Texas. After getting re-adjusted to my life in Texas again, my family and I began missionary discussions and we were all baptized a few months later. My trials in NY helped me to realize that it is okay to ask for help when you are overwhelmed and struggling to keep up with change.  I learned to forgive those who hurt me, to never underestimate the power of prayer, and to always remember that the Heavenly Father has a plan for each of us.
