Fire and Explosive Crime Scene Processes, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 239

Essay

A state fire marshal woulddelegate the task to theCrime Scene Response Squad to inspect the materials of the explosive device (s) or defective burned items and analyze the cause of the explosion or arson. As a Crime Scene Investigator, I would utilize crime scene documentation protocols to document the scene, photograph, and collect each item of evidence. The materials used in an explosive device vary widely: initiators, containers, electrical components, timing mechanisms, fragmentation shrapnel, adhesives, tape, wood, paper fasteners. Then, I would store each explosive material in a container (e.g. shoebox, cardboard box, and orpaper envelope and then bagged and transported to the crime lab.Additionally, I would proceed to brush off with evidence gathering tools (e.g., cyanoacrylate fuming, powers, Wetwop, and leucrocrystal violet) to recover fingerprints and physical evidences for lab processing. The evidencefrom fingerprints from the contacted surfaces during the commission of the crime may also be recovered(Sanders, N., 2011). All of the prints placed onto the various bomb components were using a combination of eccrine and sebaceous secretions tool to retrieve evidence. The evidence gathering tools are imperative to collect physical evidence at the scene because it is easier to preserve the post-blast materials immediately while the residues stay intact, and may identify the subject who caused the explosionas investigated through the crime scene investigators.
