Essay

In my preparation for the study of music presentation at a higher level, I began by learning about piano. I did this upon joining my new school. Unlike most people, I started my musical career at a later age. Many people including my friends encouraged and motivated me to steer my skills to greater heights. Finally, after contemplating for a long time, I threw in a towel and asked my parents to assist me get a teacher who would train me on how to play piano. They managed to get me a teacher who resided within our neighborhood whose name was Mimi hung. After one year, I was in a position to play the piano, and in a span of two years, I had done my first piano exam under the supervision of Prudence Leung my new teacher who had a Bachelor of music degree from UBC University. In my third and fourth year of piano study, I fell in love with music and I got Dr. Susan Chan who offered to help me nurture in my music career. She encouraged me to pursue my dreams with passion and love especially in piano and music. Consequently, I made a decision to study performance of music at advanced levels. I tolerated a passionate practice schedule to increase my ability and patience to memorize music. I also worked on strength, accuracy, and power of my hands so that I could practice a career in music as well as musical presentations at higher levels. I frequently listened to diverse genres of music so that I get motivation for my own approach of music. For all that time, I wish to point out that, now, I have mastered how to play an array of instruments including the saxophone. I now have an experience of six years with Piano.

In my year two of piano study, I did well in the RCM Level 9 Piano examination with a score of 81, and thus, I was honored with “First Class Honors.” During my fourth year, I obtained a Steinway Grand Piano to be of an enhanced tool for practice. During this time, I changed my instructors to Dr. Susan Chan who greatly helped me in increasing a habit of waking up early to practice. I tremendously increased my practice time overall. I did well in the RCM Level 10 Piano Examination with a mark of 73 and I was granted “Honors”. While I was doing the RCM Practical Examinations, I took theory examinations at the same time. I was awarded “First Class Honors with Distinction” after finishing Advanced Rudiments 2. I completed Basic Harmony 3 and was given “Honors”. In addition, I did History 1 and got “Honors”, and finally Intermediate Harmony 4 and I was awarded “Honors.” From time to time, I would present at elderly homes and public places. I have also participated and got awards in the Kiwanis, Richmond, and Burnaby Clef Music Festivals. Now, I am motivated to take the ARCT test; conversely, the nearly all-recent level of instrumental exam I have taken would be the RCM Level 10 Piano Exam. The most recent level of theory examination I have done can be the RCM transitional Harmony 4 Exam. Apart from playing Piano, I have played the Saxophone in my school’s crew and the occasional out-of-school bands for almost eight years. Initially I had done solo performance very well. I played the Alto Saxophone alone many times. In my fifth year, however, I played with the instrument. I also opted to play the Soprano Saxophone solely.
