Essay

Foucault’s writings on governmentality and biopolitics have stirred a wide range of responses. Some of the subjects or courses discussed in the reactions included political science, philosophy, history, urban planning and legal studies. The reading discusses the aspects of governmentality by conferring historical origin of governments dating back to the primeval times up to twentieth century that saw the commencement freedom or liberalism. Foucault presented us with analyses of freedom, individuality, and power that cut right to the heart of these matters in the present.

A major fact brought forth in Foucault’s reading regarding governmentality was caused by a series of occurrences.  The change from the Keynesian welfare state to a state entailing the so-called free market plans including the growth of neo-liberal political projects in Western democracies helps to clarify and demonstrate the concept of governmentality. An analytics of government also assists in delivering a dynamic breakdown of how governmentalization was a fundamental component in the history of politics. The critical arguments presented Foucault’s does not limit itself to statements regarding the domination of the market or the retreat of the state, but tries to both interpret and translate the essential components of good leadership in the state or government.

While the idea of governmentality gives a very promising instrument that can be used to analyze the revolution historical ruler to the modern governing strategies statehood. Unfortunately, there are limitations or weaknesses to this argument. To begin with, the territorial sovereign nation states serve as the explicit or implicit source of reference in the governmentality texts conferred from the reading. Foucault’s also presents an argument on the subject of neoliberal capitalism. The claims state that neoliberal capitalism has a perception that theoretically seeks to stimulate entrepreneurialism to the point of disaster.

This paper draws upon the theory neoliberal governmentality. It tries to explain the origin a population and its behavior towards politics in a State government. The content and remarks regarding crisis of governmental legality are not highlighted to express the population unawareness regarding their political responsibility. One example of an evolving form of behavior which has been inspired in the population is their effort to live up to the responsibilities and obligations the people have as political individuals.

The reading also suggests that neoliberal governmentality has duly shifted human thought regarding political responsibility within a State. The book’s content portrays the understanding of governmentality as the main method for obtaining both entrepreneurial and business gurus into leadership positions. It helps in answering the pegging question regarding government responsibility towards the people in the State. It shifts the reasoning away from the type of sovereign individualist leadership to a context entailing a more active and flexible comprehensive capitalism in the world.

In conclusion, the indication of a ‘global governmentality’ proposes that a particular confusion within the arrangement of quite proscriptive capitalist is the source of corruption that happens in the current world. Nevertheless, if this analysis tries to find the rhetoric of majestic political power in the world of politics, one would then challenge or question the orientation of Foucault’s ideas. Life politics of the government has promoted positive international relations but still has a long way to improve on the potential of post-territorial politics. Global neoliberal governmentality clearly does not, and cannot, positively work on the real world population.
