Francisco de Narváez at TíA: Selling the Family Business, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 264

Essay

The decision of selling the family business appears to have been made from a predisposition of the older managers becoming obsolete. They seem to lack innovation and the resilience to continue amidst the changing business climate. We live in a dynamic universe where business could become outdated due to evolution in the market. As such in my opinion selling was not the best option even though the business existed for a number of years. The old ways of conducting business is what had to go. Perhaps, those qualities were no longer marketable.

For example, when de Narváez employed a United States-based retail strategy consulting firm alternative business functions were recommended. A major factor that was identified pertained to how customers varied geographically. Therefore, application of two different strategies became the obvious solution towards redeeming the crisis in the business. During that period there were immense successes after implementing the recommended strategies.

However, after a year de Narváez expressed frustrations’ which had no foundation in the business function, but his own weariness of being the manager founder. Instead of deciding to sell eventually he should have recruited people who were willing to take the business to another level within the century. He did mention that was his innermost desire, but did not have the time tto invest in finding the most appropriate people.

Ultimately, he sought out the easiest way of liquidating the firm’s assets. The decision was not frugal. The selling process was an excellent experience. From a business analysts perspective even though I am not in agreement with selling this family business the negotiations were superb.
