As DNP nurses, it is reasonable to make a mark by contributing to patient care practices and standards that are upheld in the field, as well as in nursing education. It is the responsibility of DNP leaders to analyze and understand the changes that need to be made in the field. In this manner, needs assessments could be conducted to target areas in need of improvement and relevant projects can be implemented to bring these changes about. DNP leaders are the ears and the eyes of the field. By having a thorough understanding of various aspects that impact practice, they have the ability to direct others towards the necessary steps to change these practices (Taylor et al., 2011). Furthermore, DNP leaders have the enhanced ability to understand the positive and negative consequences of such change, which will allow them to refine these practices in a manner that will improve nursing practice on the local, state, and/or federal level.

DNP nurses understand that their involvement in the field has the potential to contribute to broader scope practices. Thus, research conducted in one institution could contribute to the publication of a peer-reviewed article that will then influence practice in additional locations. In this manner, DNP leaders have the ability to leave their mark by creating and distributing knowledge that could be used by other professionals in the field (Alligood, 2013). As this information is culminated and used in practice, this contributes to impact that DNP leaders have on practice. By both creating and using information, DNP leaders are able to revolutionize the way that modern medical professionals think about their practice in a manner that has the potential to lead to positive change.
