Future Interests, Essay Example

Essay

Currently, my main goal is to finish my MS degree in applied science and technology with an excellent academic standing.  The reason that I am studying to obtain this degree is so  I can enter high level management upon its completion. I realize that there is a low probability that I can upon graduation immediately obtain such a position. There is most likely to be a climbing- the-ladder process involved in order to gain management experience in general and to get to know the workings of the company and its people.  In the meantime, between now and graduation, I plan on getting as much management experience as possible, albeit at a junior level.  My job as a lead mechanical engineer for Fluor is already helping with that goal.

As important as degrees and experience are in getting a good position, keeping it and also getting promoted often depend as much—if not more—on people skills.  I, therefore, intend to take courses and join groups to help me to improve mine.  I also plan to read books and take seminars on what makes a good manager, realizing that the attributes can vary somewhat from company to company. I am already thinking of what field I would like to be in (research, exploration, development, etcetera) and to decide on a company or institution for which I would like to work and, then, to learn as much as possible about it. I want to be a life-long learner.

I already work out, but I plan to do even more as well as getting sufficient sleep, and having a healthy diet because I know that being fit goes a long way towards achieving success.

I plan on keeping—and expanding—my circle of close acquaintances and friends as I realize they are essential to my well being.  They are people I can have fun with, confide in, and receive support.  I also want to have a healthy and loving nuclear family, as well as a great extended family.  I also want my family and me to be able to afford to enjoy the good things in life.
