Gallaudet University, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 361

Essay

I decided to attend Gallaudet University and enroll in this course because I wish to obtain a career in pharmacy. As an individual who had been diagnosed with jaundice at an early age, I have become fascinated with the biological mechanisms that cause both this and similar illnesses, and wish to dedicate my life to helping others achieve health. While I was growing up, others looked at me as if I were an outsider, and it is my goal to prevent children around the world from this demeaning experience. Ultimately, I believe that the sciences offered by Gallaudet University will provide me with a rigorous education that will prepare me for a job in academia or in industry.

Science is the understanding of how the world works, and is therefore the meaning of life to me. It has helped me develop greater knowledge of my unique health situation, allowing me to cope with its physical and emotional consequences. I am aware that it is important to understand microbiology both in relation to human health and how non-human organisms interact, and I wish to gain knowledge of the greater picture regarding the world of microscopic creatures. My personal role model is Rosalind Franklin, who gave her life for the sake of her research, thereby contributing useful information regarding the structure of DNA that modern scientists continue to use in their experiments today.

Overall, I enjoy working in a group, but this experience is only positive if the group is dedicated to their work. To ensure that a team will be successful, they must complete their work on time, communicate on a daily basis, and maintain a friendly work environment. Although I’ve experienced situations in the past in which this did not occur, I believe that this problem could be solved by ensuring that group members that appear lost get the coaching they need to complete the assignment. However, it is important that this does not interfere with the work of other group members. I think it will be challenging to approach a new group of students and ensure that the group will run smoothly, but conversation can be used to ensure that this occurs.
