Essay

Gather and interpret information to identify possible solutions to a problem (Present the information gathered and your analysis. It is recommended that you attach this as a separate document)

On the surface, I perceived the problem to be a lose-lose situation with no potentially profitable outcome but decided to apply a problem solving model to be certain and weigh all of my options.

the problem solving model

The above chart displays the problem solving model utilized to assess the best path towards resolving the problem. In utilizing the above model it was found that there were two problems in play, the company’s problem and the problem I had to address as an extension of the company’s problem. The company’s problem was defined as diminishing capital and an urgent need to increase investors and clients to solve this problem. The problem that was to train, lead, and manage a team hired to resolve this issue. The first step for me to gather and interpret information to solve the problem was to identify the root cause of the problem. I identified the root cause of the problem to be that my supervisor had not structured the roles of my position or the position of the interns in a way that adequately made the interns accountable for their work, while placing too much responsibility on my role as the team leader. I attributed this lack of foresight to the high level of stress the board was placing on him to produce results which he in turn was transferring to me.  Assessing the situation more objectively from a broader scope, the actual product marketability came into question. It was possible the website structure and actual service the company was providing was not sufficient for its market. As product creation and website architecture were not the responsibility of my department, I was posed with the challenge drawing attention to the SeedAsia brand, regardless of its actual marketability or industry value. In developing alternative solutions for the problem, I came up with the following solutions 1) Quit my position, 2) address the issue concerning the website’s marketability with my supervisor, 3) go ahead as planned with leading the team in the most optimal way.

I decided on going ahead as planned and leading the team, in a way that would best solve the problem facing the company as well as address the problem presented to me individually by the situation. The expected outcome I assumed would occur is that the company would fail in its attempt to garner new clients and investors but would clearly  identify my contribution to this pitfall as a non-contributing factor. I estimated the outcome of addressing the site’s marketability with my supervisor ,at the current juncture with an urgent 3 month deadline looming, would only further complicate the situation. I came to this conclusion based on the fact that my suspicions that the company’s business model and website architecture made it unmarketable would only be viewed as speculation without any concrete data from field tests. The only way to attain this data would be through providing the highest level of marketing possible by effectively managing the team provided.
