Essay

Gelmesium is a homeopathic remedy that is suitable for treating weakness that is occurs in the muscles and limbs. Further, the homeopathic use of the remedy include treating mental problems, such as lack of confidence, timidity, and indecision. However, Gelsemium is also a poison, and is considered to be a spinal depressant (Botanical.com). Affecting the central nervous system of the body, it can cause temporary or long term paralysis. While used for medical action, it was historically used in America as a sedative for patients with violent fever, and it is also suitable for treating asthma. On the other hand, while it is beneficial in the recommended dosage to treat respiratory illnesses and infections, overdose can cause slow respiration, and in extreme cases centric respiratory failure can occur (Botanical.com). Gelsemium patients show signs of weakness, and lack of energy overall. Trembling is also a common symptom of Gelsemium flu patients. Overall,  Gelsemium as a homeopathic remedy is suitable for treating flu that is affecting the respiratory and nervous system. As it calms down the circulation and inflamed respiratory organs, it can provide patients relief from symptoms that affect their everyday lives. However,  overdose can cause adverse effects, and relax the body too much, making it slow down. Pulse becomes rapid, the skin surface cools down, and in order to avoid death, stomach evacuation and artificial respiration is needed. Death from poisoning, if not treated can occur in between 1 and 7 ½ hours. Gedah (n.d.) metnions that Gelsemium can cause catarrhal inflammation, due to its impact on mucous membranes. Double vision and pupil dilatation is also mentioned by the same author as a sign of Gelsemium poisoning.
