Generating and Assessing Evidence for Nursing Practice, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 362

Essay

Supporting evidence-based practice requires sufficient knowledge and an understanding of the critical elements of the nursing environment that impact research. Therefore, nurse education must be appropriate and timely in an effort to produce the desired results. The value of education in this area cannot be undermined, as it provides a basis for examining the different areas where nurse-led education might be useful in promoting an environment of success and achievement for nurses (Slavin, 2008). In this context, nurses must be able to demonstrate their ability to understand the context and content of prior research in order to provide an effective background in which to conduct research effectively (Slavin, 2008).

An evaluation of prior studies is critical to ensure that the appropriate research is selected for further consideration when addressing a specific subject area (Polit & Beck, 2012). In this context, it is important to determine which studies are most effective in reducing potential bias so that the outcomes are most successful in addressing a given research question (Polit & Beck, 2012). Therefore, it is necessary to develop a systematic review method that will consider critical factors such as coding, sample sizes, and the types of research methodologies that will most likely have the greatest impact on the study results (Polit & Beck, 2012). This practice will enable the research to acquire knowledge regarding the subject matter, to synthesize the evidence that is available, and to determine the areas in which the research might be effective in addressing the questions that have been raised. An evaluation of specific databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Collection will also identify specific terms and determine if the context of said terms is appropriate in shaping the systematic review in different ways that will impact nursing practice in a positive manner to achieve the level of guidance and education that will positively impact nursing practice and those who work throughout the profession in different capacities.
