Global Communication and the Internet, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 370

Essay

What was once considered to be a leading communication source is now old and outdated technology. The introduction and far-reaching effects of the internet have greatly impeded the once superior telephone in the world of marketing. Today it is possible for individuals and businesses alike to market their products, services, and offerings to people clear across the world. This communication and marketing require very little effort and in fact, can be carried out by a simple click of a mouse. The internet allows for global exports and trading to be possible in just about every area of the market, as well as with just about any nation or country in the world. Today a small business can trade and communicate with a provider in chat rooms, or other forums. There are a number of websites and web services that cater to connecting businesses for profit. Commercial News Magazine is one example of the mediums used to promote foreign trade between countries, near and far. Businesses are promoted and barriers such as language are addressed by the magazine to promote trade. This allows for advertising and business dealings to just about anywhere in the world, which is a great asset for companies.

There is little effort to limit the amount of reach or potential that global communication has in the current market. Even though different areas of the world have very different traditions and laws, it is possible for advertisements/trade to be seen on just about any marketing site. There are little restrictions meaning that products, services, and information can be shared regardless of legality, ethical or moral beliefs. This can create grave consequences in some respects because what is considered ethical in Thailand, is vastly different than what is considered acceptable in the United States. Not only is this a troublesome phenomenon, but it also presents a difficulty for those attempting control over improper materials, information, or products. Unfortunately, what makes global communication, via the internet so appealing, is actually a large part of the downfall. Because there are little restrictions controlling content or information is relatively impossible. While individual websites can restrict their own information or communication, it certainly does not restrict what is available through the World Wide Web.
