Research Paper

The evolving world has turned every sector into IT based. Information Technology also applies in the healthcare sector where it plays a significant role in enabling modern healthcare and globalism. ICT has raised productivity, improved Medicare outcome and played a vital role in supporting the medical practitioners’ in offering patient-centric services.

With the increasing population globally, and the increased number of upcoming diseases, the health care becomes a labor-intensive industry. The human resources are the most powerful component, yet not all nations worldwide have qualified and experienced medical practitioners (IT Market Outlook 2012). Presently, the healthcare industry has developed ways to cumber this problem. Patients from distant places can now receive treatment through telehealth or tele-medician. This practice has brought in compelling evidence of improved patient safety globally, despite the locality of the patient. ICT has enabled teamwork of healthcare providers, where consultants from distant places communicate and offer to consult services, where unlike earlier days; cases of confusing diagnosis are solvable with the help of distant consultants (Moreira, 2011).

ICT has also played a substantial role in coordinating healthcare facilities, thus solving emergency cases. If, for example, a patient receives treatment from an ICT based healthcare facility, then an emergency happens while at a foreign nation. The medical records for the patient easily tracked and the doctors can find the way forward. In such a case, interactions and allergies easily identified before attending to the patient.

According to the World Health Report 2007, the world is at a risk of epidemics, disease outbreaks, natural disasters, industrial accidents, and various health emergencies (Smith, Pamela & Forgione, 2007). These incidences threaten global public health. However, global public health is dependent on international cooperation, where all countries are willing to coordinate and act effectively in tackling new, and emerging threats. ICT has enabled the coordination.

Generally, health care has become more global, and with plans to explore deeper into the ICT field to improve further globalization, more especially in communication. The mentioned global options and the ones to come are most likely to increase the revenue of a health care organization and improve the entire US healthcare industry.
