Global Warming: My Opinion, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 374

Essay

Needless to say, global warming is one of the most popular topics in mass media today. Some authors assert that global warming is a man-made disaster. Others are trying to prove that global warming reflects natural processes on the planet. I believe that there is no relevant information which could either prove or refute any of these assumptions, but I am more than confident that global warming is an excellent source of political, economic, and social benefits and profits, which groups and corporations use to satisfy their material needs.

Several issues and controversies justify my opinion. To begin with, there is no relevant scientific research which could prove that global warming is at least real. We are being told that climate is getting warmer, that Arctic ices are melting, and that the growing number of natural cataclysms indicates the beginning of our tragic end. However, that the temperature of Earth is getting higher does not necessarily mean that it is the product of global warming and meanwhile, global warming is turning into a form of political trend, which groups and individuals use to achieve their objectives. Dozens of groups and organizations have already turned global warming into the source of continuous profits, urging population and states to send thousands and millions of dollars that are expected to support their “anti-warming” initiatives. More often than not, global warming is a convenient means to distract population from real economic and social problems. For many years, the United States lived in conditions of the imminent communist threat, and global warming came to replace the communist issue that became irrelevant after the rapid collapse of the Soviet Union. Now, global warming can be fairly regarded as the source of potential political and economic threats – the source, which makes thousands of people spend their money to purchase “anti-warming” technologies, which corporations produce in millions. Electric cars is just one out of many examples of how global warming works in practice. Because there is no relevant scientific information about whether global warming is real and how it impacts our lives, I see global warming as a kind of a flexible political and economic tool, which politicians and corporations can use whenever they want power or seek to increase their profits.
