Why is globalization of industries a common factor today? As the V.P. for Human Resources, what would you do to train new global project managers in your organization? What are some potential issues that may arise?

Globalization of industries is common in business today because of the reach of modern technology. The Internet and mobile technologies give consumers global reach and access to products and services anywhere in the world. To stay competitive, companies need to keep up with the speed at which technology grows, to be able to keep up with their customers. Also, it is to a company’s advantage to reach consumers outside of their local and national markets as well. There are a wealth of consumers all around the world that are able to reach products and services anywhere in the world. The world is very diverse and it has gotten a lot smaller in recent decades with the advent of the technology boom.

As V.P. for Human Resources, I would make sure my global project managers are trained on cultural etiquette and also trained on the various customs of the global countries with which we would be doing business. It is important to be knowledgeable about the language, laws, norms, practices, and rules that other cultures have, so that no one will offend the people. In addition, it is especially important to know about the laws and codes of the country, so as not to break any laws. Every country is different and the corporate brand also has to be modified to fit with the host countries stipulations, which is important for global project managers to know.

Potential issues that may arise include language barriers, cultural norm differences, living condition differences and other things that could cause culture shock to team working in global environments. It is important that global project managers are aware so that they can teach that awareness to their teams.
