There are various benefits of going green at home including environmental, economic and social benefits. Going green at home also promotes and improves air quality, saves money and energy, as well as natural resources use, thus reduces maintenance costs and provides the positive impact on the environment (Anderson, 2011). In most cases, the green home provides long term energy saving conditions in the home environment especially through the use of less energy resulting in low utility bills in the home. The use of renewable and clean energy sources also promotes a positive impact on the environment by lowering pollution in the environment (54% going Green at Home, 2013). Recycling of goods and services in the environment also lowers the emission of toxic materials in the environment.  This also reduces emission of greenhouse gasses in the atmospheres thus prevents global warming effects.  In that sense, it is true and evident that going green at home promote a healthy environment and cleaner environmental conditions at home. Furthermore, green products are more durable, and last longer compared to other products (Anderson, 2011).

Going green at home also involves the adoption of a new lifestyle that ensures high comfort ability, high air quality and the use of durable materials at home (Anderson, 2011). In most cases, the major benefits of going green at home that majority of individuals usually realized include reduced utility bills and other home spending (Garrison, 2013). This is because going green at home mostly results in low energy use, recycling of products as well as the application of renewable energy sources. This usually results in low spending as well as healthy lifestyle systems in the home. Going green at home also involves proper management of waste, increased organic farming practices and other reduction of waste in the landfills at home (The Green House Revolution in Nursing Homes, 2012). This also reduces air pollution, results in changes in family lifestyle, as well as improved and healthy food production at home.

There are also various cost savings benefits of going green at home especially towards paying of electricity bills. Furthermore, according to the United States environmental protection department recent research studies and reports, it is true that recycling and reuse of products reduce energy costs at home (Anderson, 2011). This also helps and promotes conservation of natural resources in the environment. Going green at home also improves the growth of the economy in the society since it provides an opportunity for individuals in the society to adopt cost effective and cost saving energy practices at home.

According to recent environmental research studies and publications, going green at home reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emission in the atmosphere to a large extent thus reducing air pollution (Anderson, 2011). It is also clear that going green at home positively impact individual’s health care at home. This is because going green at home reduces energy consumption and also involves the use of non-toxic household products and services.  Going green at home also allow individuals to buy and produce organic food products that contain high minerals, vitamins as well as other antioxidants (Garrison, 2013). This mostly results in a reduction in various health risks such as cancer, obesity, heart diseases and other chronic medical conditions. Going green at home also encourages various physical activities and other green transportation measures such as walking, running and other direct physical exercise practices (Lorenzen, 2012). This mostly promotes emotional, mental health as well as psychological well-being of individuals in the society.

Despite this, there are various disadvantages of going green at home including high cost of technological tools used for green practices at home (Garrison, 2013).  Going green at home is also a time-consuming and tiresome activity that require new skills to be effectively achieved at home.

In conclusion, it is evident from this paper that there are several benefits of going green at home including promotion of energy saving conditions, cost-effective practices, high durability of products and items, healthy food productions as well as the provision of clean environment.
