Good Cause Application, Essay Example

Essay

Thank you for reviewing my application for a ccw permit.  I would be very interested in your opinion of this draft, and welcome your comments on improvement.

Here is the petition in short.

I have three concerns:

Firstly, we have lived in Placer County, Weimer for the past 8 months and during that time, have twice had homeless transients blunder up to our cabin questioning us about – as far as we know – non-existent people. I say this because the names of these individuals were unfamiliar to us, and we know they don’t live in the area; it seemed patently obvious to us, therefore, that the transients were scrutinizing our homes. I didn’t call the sheriff since these incidents occurred during daylight. However, I have since noticed more people loitering by the freeway, and since my wife and I live in a solitary, rural area, we are concerned for our safety.

Secondly, shortly after we moved in to our new home, our neighbor’s girl friend informed me that her son was shortly being released on parole. He has actually been released from jail, is now living with his mom and her boyfriend right next door to us (although I don’t know if this is a full time or partial arrangement), and I have seen a loaded barrel shotgun in their house. (It belongs to the boyfriend. The gun itself is conspicuous and readily available for anyone to use; more so, for all I know, the boyfriend may readily have other weapons on his premises). I am scared for our safety, specifically since I don’t know whether or not the boy is supervised by jail personal.  I need to be able to protect my family, and the sheriff’s department is too far for me to realistically hope that I could reach it in time would danger strike.

Finally, job requirements necessitate that I (with usually my wife accompanying) travel all over California. The security and safety tenor of these locations vary: I could be staying in a highly secure area, or the reverse, passing through a high-crime location that would necessitate a weapon to prevent us from likely attack. These situations are common: we have had, at times, to stay on the road for as long as a year, occasionally in threatening areas. During those times, my wife has not dared venture from her motel until I return from work.  As you can imagine, this situation impacts many areas of our life including procuring food to eat. It also makes us miserable, impacts our domestic harmony, and afflicts our mental well-being.

I appreciate your taking these facts into consideration and am grateful for your help.
