Great Mission Statement, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 280

Essay

Starbucks is a leading global instant coffee retailer. The company’s focus on quality and customer service is evident in its mission statement,Our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time.” (Starbucks). A good mission statement should answer at least four questions (Hull, 2013) which are:

  • What does the company do?
  • How does the company do it?
  • For whom the company does it for?
  • What value the company creates?

As far as Starbucks’ mission statement is concerned, the company answers all these four questions quite effectively. The answer to the first question is that Starbucks inspire and nurture the soul. The answer to the second question is that the company does it by selling an enjoyable cup of coffee. The company does it for every customer each of whom is valued and treated with respect at one of company’s many retail outlets worldwide. The company creates value by establishing presence in different neighborhoods so that anyone looking for a hot cup of coffee is able to enjoy one.

Starbucks could not have come up with a better mission statement because not only it tells readers company is in the business of nurturing soul through a quality cup of coffee but it also reminds the customers that each one of them is worthy of individual attention by the company, no matter how big the company might have become. By making customers feel valued, the mission statement helps the company enjoy stronger brand loyalty from customers.
