Introduction
This paper reviews a defined case scenario and implements an approach aimed at solving the problem presented in the case study. The steps taken towards solving the problem will entail a procedure of six steps which includes: the first step of define the problem, the second step of an analyzing the problem and the 3rd step would involve the generation of possible options. Then the next process comprises the evaluation of the identified options following the process of decision making and lastly the implementation and reflection on the identified options or solutions. The explanation and clarification for the given scenario is discussed below.
Definition of the problem
This is the initial step in the structure of carrying out a problem solving on the given reading. The standard process to be in the given cases scenario would comprise of the problem definition which is that the employee is in a sort of dilemma. The conflict presented in this case is that the employee is on the verge of gaining a promotion at his place after finishing his Bachelor’s Degree. The problem is that the employee has been offered a better job opportunity in another State by the same company they are working for and it mandates that they are to report in 2 weeks’ time, which is the same time openly conflicting his final exams for their Bachelor’s Degree. The employee stands to lose the tuition compensation if they decide to transfer to the new job opportunity.
Additionally, the new job opportunity requires that the employee studies for a Master’s Degree in order to qualify for the position as they settle in the Company over time. The obvious outcome expected for employee would be to take full financial responsibly for the college or university courses, that is, for both the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree, in case they are to decide to take up on the new job position in the other State. The problem statements defined subsequently give the fundamental and foundational directive that can be used to solve the defined problem (Green Development Research Center, 2015).
Analyze the problem
According to the above defined problems, the second step of the problem solving procedure entails the analysis of the problems defined. The problem declares the employee is in a dilemma that requires the consideration of all the possible outcomes that would ensue incase the employee decides to leave or take up the new job opportunity. The current situation that can be factored in the analysis of this particular problem is that the source of the complications helps in proposing workable solutions for the employee. The current environmental and personal factors defining the problem also help in setting up a criterion that can be used to solve the problem (Reed, 2013).
Relating problem to the analysis process brings up possible queries that can help answer the employee’s problem. Understanding that the worker is almost through with the Bachelor’s Degree course in an approximated 2 weeks’ time and that doing so would make them eligible for tuition fee compensation by the current company is an offer worth considering. At the same time, if the employee was to weigh his options for transferring to the new recommended opportunity, do they stand to gain form making this decision? These are the pegging questions that would help solve the problem presented by the case scenario.
Generate options
The stage of the problem solving process involves the identification and noting down the possible options the employee would have to this particular case scenario (Green Development Research Center, 2015). Furthermore, generating all possible options will enable one to evaluate them and come up with a sole solution that would help the employee make the best choice. The potential and most likable choices that employee would make include: the employee can take up on the offer for the new job even this would mean they have to pay the fee for completing the Bachelor’s Degree. Additionally, the employee would also have to fund the Master’s Degree he will be pursuing as requirement for the new job opportunity.
Another possible solution or option for the employee would to immediately start and make any possible arbitration with the human resource team in the new company following an interview. This would maybe allow them to schedule the work initiative at a later on date that would make it comfortable for the employee to finish his Bachelor’s degree. Taking up on the new offer would also mean that the employee has to pursue a Master’s Degree, for he has to fund himself. The last option the employee has is to remain in his current job position in the current company and enjoy the advantage of tuition compensation for completing his Bachelor’s Education.
Evaluate options
The evaluation process entails the examination of each of the identified possible options and scrutinizing them for both pros and cons or disadvantages. Pondering on the identified solutions, one can depict that negotiating with the new company on the start data of the job after taking up on the offer is the best option possible. This is because it will enable the employee to finish their exams on time thus complete the Bachelor’s Degree. The idea of taking up the offer and starting to work on the recommended start date would mean they employee has to reschedule his exam dates if he misses them, which can prove to be expensive and at the same time inconvenience the employee. Staying on the current job position would simply mean the employee would get their Bachelor’s Degree on time but miss out on the opportunity of a tremendous career advancement that might increase his financial credit.
Making the Decision (Preferred Decision)
This particular stage of the problem solving phase involves the selection of the best solution based on the possible positive outcomes of conforming to that particular choice. Given the evaluation carried above the top and most paramount solution that can be recommended is the one that would obviously benefit the employee. The idea of requesting for an extension on the start date for the new job is brilliant since there is a probable chance of the new company considering the employees plea to sit for his final Bachelor’s Degree exam. Permitting him to accomplish the Bachelor’s Degree would enable him prosper in the new job. Furthermore, taking up on the offer would mean an increase in income, which is a paramount thing.
Implement and Reflect
The implementation of the proposed solution would require the employee to conduct the sequential series of steps that would favor the presented dilemma (Green Development Research Center, 2015). Following an interview or meeting with the new company would mandate the employee to request for a hiring extension on start date of the job. It is credible that the new company would understand the employee’s situation and grant them an extension in order to finish his Bachelor’s Degree exam. The effect of the meeting or interview negotiations is the determining factor to the employee’s finalized decision.
In conclusion, decisively determining all the involved elements or entities in the decision making process aimed at solving a problem or conflict is vital to finding a subsequent solution. The selected solution for this case study is actually practical given that the involved parties stand to gain from the resolution. The stages undertaken towards coming up with a solution easily give the directive that will enable the employee to solve problem.
