Group Writing as an Online Student, Essay Example

This is my first experience engaging in collaborative group writing as an online student.  In all honesty, I am extremely appreciative of the opportunity to experience this type of integration, working with colleagues as a group. The group dynamics is superb.  My group members, are excellent decision makers. For example, we go to the blackboard email, which facilitates the process. The techniques offered through this method creates a system whereby information could be shared simply and easily allowing us to complete our individual sections in a timely manner.

All of my group members are articulate and committed towards achieving the best results from our efforts.  As such, they share their expertise with the project conscientiously. We practice organization and task sharing strategies. For example, one group member does the final editing. This task entails proofreading, the assignment when completed.

However, in my opinion, collaborative writing is a challenge. For me, while being very useful, there is difficulty communicating through email in an online course. It is very time consuming and there is no face to face contact. At no time could we connect with each other through a face. When we have to revise the assignment into a two page memo format before Friday, there is no intimacy among group members towards bonding.

As such, two persons are assigned the editing to ensure that it is correct. Confidence has not been developed.  It is important to communicate at a deeper level of knowing each other. Confidence developed though bonding helps in the process. My desire is for my group to continue towards creating greater integration, which would produce better grades in our assignments
