Growing up in Ethiopia where you see people day to day struggling to live impacted me greatly to understand the true meaning of poverty. The healthcare system is very weak because they don’t have enough resources that leads to improper diagnose. Also people can’t afford get yearly checkups to top it off even if they are sick they can’t afford to get treated so most people die of unknown disease. The healthcare providers also are not always understanding to most patients because they don’t receive education about professional and ethical conduct which leads to patient unsatisfactory treatment.
I have experienced an upfront situation where my cousin was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The hospital couldn’t provide the medication due to the fact that they didn’t have any treatment for this particular disease process in Ethiopia. So we had to take matters into our own hands by ordering the medication from India. Luckily, we had some people who lived there that helped deliver it within the limited time we had. If we didn’t have that kind of connection then we would have lost her.
It is important to make mention that while shadowing a nurse, I learned so many things about taking care of a patient and the privacy that the nurses provide. It wasn’t easy to just shadow without signing HIPPA policy for the patient; inevitably, nurses emerged to be very strict on patients’ privacy which was very interesting and ethic to do. One special thing I learned about a nurses is that they take care of their patients 24/7; in other words, nurses are considered as a right hand of a doctor, since they are more close to the patients and more alerted of the situation the patient is in, when doctors are only diagnosing the patients and leaving them under the monitoring of the nurses. The nurse that I had a chance to shadow occurred as very skilled in her job; and what she explained to me about the occupation of nurses is that these people are more concerned about the patient’s health; the thing is that, since they see most of the patient’s changes in case of any abnormal situation, they are the ones to notice it.
I’m very principled person who loves to help people and make them feel that they could count on me. Since the time immemorial I always used to be obsessed with the idea of taking care of those who are in need of this. Consequently, I must admit that such a passion for being a nurse made me finally chose nursing as the main path of my career. I cannot but state that an approval of my candidacy in Luke’s College of Health Sciences can obviously make me an absolutely satisfied individual. When analyzing my attitude towards philosophy of nursing, I would like to notice that, in my view, this notion includes personal awareness of medicine that you can utilize while offering your highly-qualified support to the patients. Considering my own philosophy of nursing, I have to point out that the delivery of appropriate care is the basic principle of nursing.
My sister always told me about how I care a lot about people and how I would fit great in the healthcare system. She is one of the most influential people in my life and she pushes me to do my very best. Owing to her, I clearly understand that nursing emerges to be not just an occupation yet the entire lifestyle; it is necessary to become aware that being a nurse cannot be regarded as exceptionally looking after people; the nature of nursing incorporates the idea of modelling the framework of treating and providing necessary services to all comers. As for the entity of nursing, one should take into consideration the fact that this is some sort of mission that you are willing to carry on while offering your help as well as demonstrating uncontroverted longing for health and wealth of all the patients.
A peculiar dimension of nursing is that all the nurses need to understand and be able to distinguish numerous types of humor. If they are taught medical humor properly with the purpose of being capable of effective contributing to the psychological conversations, they will no way use ethic, sarcastic and sexist humor in order not to depress patients. As for Luke’s College of Health Sciences, it actually offers a number of training programs allowing numerous nursing students to take part in bringing laughter to patients by means of humor carts and humor resource centers; and this very aspect of its training strategy makes the aforementioned institution a unique place to become a proficient nurse.
These are the main factors that helped me decide what I was meant to do which is nursing. I like nursing because my principal in life is to emphasize with people or in other words put myself in their shoes to understand the condition they are facing. I am a very resilient person who is not likely to easily give up, no matter how bad the situation is. I want to fight for the patient’s right until the end by being an advocate for them. The thing is that many people often appear to be unheard by modern-day society and, consequently, they lose desire to live, since everything turns to be pointless. As for the nurses, they have to be those struggling with the issue of social injustice and proving life to be worth going through.
I have attempted to give an explanation to what nursing really means to me; what is more, it is necessary to mention that I am focused on enriching my awareness of the main guiding principles that the nurses are obliged to abide while experiencing their process of practising. I would like to admit that striving to enrol in this nursing program is likely to be explained by complete understanding of my personal devotion to helping people. Apart from the above-said, the reason I picked Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences is because they have an amazing nursing program since they have a strong reputation in healthcare. I also read that there is a great chance of getting employed when attending this particular nursing school which is very reassuring for my future career. I would also be helpful by adding diversity due to my multilingual abilities.
