Gun Policy, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 365

Essay

The regulations on the Washington DC gun policy follow public policy models. The policy follows the policy of institutionalism as there are institutions that ensure compliance with these policies rules.  The enforcement of these policies is by the Metropolitan police department. The policies also employ the model of the process where the enforcement formulation and legitimization of the policy follows a certain process. The registration of the fire arms in the policy follows a process (Morton 35). The policy also is rational as it aims at achievement of more gains than the desired input. The policies aimed at the better good of the society, therefore, rational.

The policies also employ the concept of continuation which portrays it as a progression of the existing policies. The continuation shown by the provision in the firearms registration on previously owned firearms depicts this notion. The policies on gun regulation also follow the theory of public choice through the implementation of the policies with a consideration of the society. The basis of adoption of these policies is on the interest of the public. The policy on gun regulation also takes the approach of the elite theory (Jens and Philip 76). Accordingly the policies adopted do not replicate the desires of the society rather they reflect the prevailing aims of the policy implemented.

The formulation of these policies not found on the demands by the masses but the requirements necessitating such policy formulation.  It is imperative also to note that the regulations of the policy aim at attaining equilibrium through the use of group theory (Clarke et al. 56). The position here is that the aim of the policy is at reducing conflict in the society through the proper regulation of fire arms. The policy intends to attain equilibrium through the policy by balancing interests and managing compromises.
