In its context, Harlem Renaissance emerged around 1918 and went on to around 1933. Even though the period did not stay for long, it managed to bring transition in the lives of black Americans. It helped to bring fore big names of the black people in the field of film, music, and poem and in the entire field of literature. The Harlem Renaissance promoted big names such as W.E.B DuBois, Zora Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, and Claude McKay.

As the film industry experienced transition immediately after the First World War, it came along with the increased power of spending among the black Americans. The transition was so massive that the whites started to perceive the blacks from another perspective from novelists to film actors. In fact, the movie actors took the advantage of renaissance to act movies that simply exposed the unfair mistreatment of the black people in America. At the start of renaissance, the movie industry was one of the major means through which the urban black Americans could promote themselves on the mainstream America platform. Through the films, the black people received recognition. It led to a renewed sense of pride among the black and the films were used as means of speaking their views. The Harlem renaissance helped to expand the film industry and most young people with an acting talent were accommodated in the industry that had started to expand in a massive way. The big spending witnessed led to production of high quality movies and the industry continued to expand. By the time the Renaissance period was coming to an abrupt end, the film industry had already established itself in America, and there was no turning back.
