Hassles and Uplifts, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 353

Essay

Hassles and uplifts regulate our daily actions throughout much of our lifelong experiences.  In many cases, these events can impact our lives implicitly without us ever truly understanding their effects or that the events even had an impact.  Hassles are commonly negative occurrences that hinder a person’s ability to physically, emotionally, and intelligently operate.  For instance, in my life many hassles that occur are paying my monthly bills and going to work every day.  I do not enjoy doing this or having these obligations, but I choose to do them because I am able to logically weigh the costs versus the benefits.  However, going to work everyday and stressing about the job or paying the bills can often take a toll on me psychologically.  In fact, doctors have even said that I contracted a case of Mono because I was overly stressed.  Therefore, it is crucial that hassles are dealt with productively in order to main a high quality of life.  Organization and efficiency will help provide structure in paying the bills on time or keeping work related tasks in check.  I do my best to write everything into a calendar on my computer and in my daily planner so that I have a checklist of what is to be accomplished each day and it helps to map out my week.  This process allows me to reduce stress and address these hassles productively.

Uplifts on the other hand are quite often more enjoyable and much easier to deal with because they are highly desired.  Researchers believe that uplifts help provide a buffer for dealing with stress and the physical and psychological disorders that can develop due to large amounts of stress.  For instance, accomplishing a large task at work and receiving compliments for a job well done are common examples of uplifts in my life.  I often find myself working to receive these additional work bonuses through impressing my co-workers and supervisor.  Uplifts, then, provide another source of motivation for me that is more positive.  I enjoy these simple uplifts and they help brighten my day whenever I am lucky enough to receive them.
