Healing Words Versus Hateful Words, Essay Example

Essay

Communication is an important part of human relationship. The foundation of human connection is something that identifies with what is meant by social development. People utilizing a distinct pattern of communication with each other often catch each other under a particular course of thinking, one that influences the way they understand the message that the one they are conversing with wants to present to them. The power of words is something that cannot be simply aside. The way people interpret the words based on personal perception, experience and assumption of meaning makes definite impact on the overall value of the communication being undergone by particular individuals.

Accordingly, it could be understood that when a person chooses to use healing words; he would likely do so through choosing the right words which will present the right meaning; he would likely relate such choice to the being or the behavior of the people he is conversing with. However, not carrying this matter into consideration makes the conversations more hurtful and stressful in nature thus creating disagreements rather than healthy connections. I have personally experienced such course of being caught up in a particular course of conversation that was quite confusing especially in relation to how I was supposed to handle it. Being an exchange student, I was taken care of a foster family while staying in Michigan. English was not my first language and the way I used it for daily conversation was rather a common place of humor for me and for the family who was taking care of me at the time. However, there was an instance when the supposedly humorous conversation become heated up and I found myself clamoring for words hoping that I would not in any way insult them with  my response to the joke. I was not trying to put myself in the pedestal nor was I trying to correct whatever mistake has been incurred. However, I did want to point out that what they said was a little hurtful as it attacked my birth culture. I tried to think of what to say first and somehow, from hurtful words, the power of the right language and right attitude towards communication allowed me to take the first step into expressing my feelings to my foster family and made it possible for good connections to grow between me and them that cannot be easily broken by measures of irregularities in mistaken communications and word-interpretations.

Through time, it has been found out that when it comes to utilizing the right words, a conversationalist needs to take a stand on what approach he is to use; and what emotional impact he likely wants to imply on the one he is trying to connect with. May it be direct or indirect communication, the connection becomes valid and valuable especially based on the resulting factor that creates the connection between the parties involved in the communication.
