Health Care Policy Development, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 396

Essay

This is the process of developing and implementing momentous tasks of the department of Health. They are design to improve the working conditions in health and social work. It also aids in turning the political vision into an action plan that should be beneficial to staff, patients and the public. The main aim of having a policy is to offer all the services and support to the patients faster and when required. Health Policy refers to choices, strategies and actions to be taken to realize health care goals. It delineates priorities and roles of the various groups (Shannon, 2004).

In order to develop a policy one should cover all areas of concern; these include giving care to patients and the public at large; how the organization functions; and facilities to support health care including technology.  It is extremely beneficial to have a health care policy in place because it allows for operations at a health care facility be constant and efficient.  The staff morale is increased because the procedures are set on how to accomplish the given task. It is essential to have policies in place because they can evade some legal issues. Policies also permit management to steer operations without regular management intervention (Hackey, 1998).

One of the most distinctive limitations of having a health care policy is the funds for implementation. Most policies have brilliant ideas and guidelines of offering explicit service to the patients, but it is difficult to get the funds to realize the goals and objectives. Some policies are just fantastic in the paper, but cannot be realized. This is because, when developing the policies the people did not consider if the target and goals indicated are attainable. A policy is rigid, and one cannot improve or change the way tasks were done (Jennie & Kronenfeld, 2002).

In conclusion, having a health care policy in place is advisable because there will be a preset way of carrying out the set targets. Developing a policy will help to improve the health care services to their clients.
