How generation difference has affected the health care workforce and health care delivery
The difference in generation affects the health care workforce, and the healthcare delivery this is because of the difference values people have due to their age. These values affect the communication styles of people. People have different working ethics that need respect. The workforce was originally made up of two generations but later transitioned into three generations that consist of the boomers, the matures and generation X. The mature generation consist of people who got their experience through the great depression, therefore; they require respect and organisation (Wood, 2006). The boomers are the larger generation in the workplace that requires recognition that put their jobs first.
The generation X is the only one that has more expectations and thus maintains consistency for themselves and other people. This generation is the only one with many problems in the work place and in terms of delivery. The new generation is more educated and well aware of the new the technologies (Zemke, Raines & Filipczak 2001). They are also highly motivated in improving people’s lives using the new technologies. A good example is when the nurses created a video in YouTube in order to recruit people into the nursing profession. This becomes a problem because the older generation do not know how to use the technology and feel threatened that they will lose their jobs.
This generation is bigger: there is no guarantee that the delivery of services in healthcare will be enough. The spending for the healthcare services in the world increases and this also leads to the shortage of workers. In the healthcare centres, people have to wait longer in order for the doctors to attend to them. The shortage of workforce in healthcare facilities reduces the quality of services people get and increases the stress and fatigue levels of the people working in hospitals (Wood, 2006).
