Media images pose a significant challenge to analysts. When such an image pops up, various analysts will give their own perception of the image and their meanings. However, despite the differences in the description, they all direct to the same aspect of description. Recently, I came across a newspaper that was talking about beauty products and how one can apply them to gain the look that they desire. In the appearance of the advert, the advert was done in black and white colors and occupied a quarter of the newspaper’s page. Around the edge of the cutout of the advert, there were flowers that are properly fitted to provide the image with a glaring look. On the content of the image, the advert contained a picture of a woman smiling and accompanying text describing the product being advertized.
According to the appearance and content of the image, it was clear that the image was made by the company that manufactures the beauty product (Walbert 1). The product that was advertized was known as ‘Ponds Extract and it was being manufactured by a company interested in beauty products. In the manufacture of beauty products, there are very many companies that involve themselves with the trade. As a result, there are thousands of products to choose from and companies need to improve their game to beat out competition. Thus, the company chose advertising as a way of creating a media image for itself. In the society, people are not gifted with the same aspects. For example, there are those that have facial beauty while there are others that have other aspects that make them stand out in their own way. However, when it comes to looks and the appearance of the skin, entrepreneurs have taken into the task of coming up with beauty enhancement products for both men and women. From the observation, it is clear that this particular media image is intended for people that are seeking to enhance how they look like and how they feel. Thus, the advert claims that if they try out on the product, they will realize positive results.
Advertising and media images usually have a role to play. In the case of advertising, there is a role that advertising play both to the company and to the target audience. Media studies describe the role of advertising as a major cause of business survival or failure. If a business fails to properly advertize, it may end up in the south while if it advertizes vigorously, market growth is assured (Sethuraman et al., 460). One of roles that advertising plays is to help boost the sales of a company and enhance its profits (Sethuraman et al., 462). Secondly, advertising seeks to create goodwill between a business and its customers by portraying the good will of a product. In addition, adverts act to introduce a new product in the market and help it to compete with existing products. In relation to the product at hand, its main objective is to lure customers that have not yet used it before and help them to realize is efficiency in enhancing beauty of users.
Upon the viewer, the image seeks to make them change their mind from the current product that they use. As observed before, advertising seeks to increase the sales of a business. In my evaluation and analysis of this particular media image, it succeeds in bringing around the attention of viewers and readers. However, to achieve the attention, the image has used several techniques to explain its stance. For example, the picture of a smiling beautiful woman has expressed the joy that comes with using the product. The accompanying text has also played a role in luring the viewer or reader to try it. The text is detailed, convincing and laid out in a manner that attracts the attention of the audience. In addition, the creative and attractive design of the advert makes readers and viewers to take a look at it to see what it is offering.
The social culture of people defines the way that they lead their social lives and the nature of their preferences. As a result, a media image shows the social culture of the target audience (Cohen 194). In connection to the analyzed image, it is evident that the audience is a keen observer of beauty and looks. One of the reasons that explain this observation is that the products description takes a keen observation of the history of the company and how it has assisted people over generations. As a result, the social culture of the people seems interesting and the company advertizing the product is aware of their tastes and preferences. Lastly, my reaction to the image is not negative. The image has taken a simple yet convincing way to attract its readers. In addition, the message contained in the image is valid and does not take away the reality of life and of the people. However, the coloring of the advert should have been improved to make it even more eye catching.
