Healthcare Delivery, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 299

Essay

The primary parts of general hospitals include the emergency department, intensive, and long-term care units, and intake. Specialist hospitals include trauma, rehabilitation, children’s, and geriatric facilities. The workers include a wide range of healthcare professionals and business professionals. These workers include physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nursing assistants, information technology professionals, medical billers and coders, and hospital management. They are funded through both public and private means. A majority of the funding for public hospitals comes from the city and state in which it is located, which is brought in by taxes from the public. Private funds are contributed by investors and other business professionals. Occasionally, academic hospitals are able to gain access to additional funds by being awarded research grants.

Each healthcare profession is held to different standards. There are professional physician and nursing associations that regulate care standards across the board for every hospital in the country. Individual hospitals also develop their own set of standards that must be met. The major barriers that exist to affect hospital services typically include the availability of staff, training programs, the availability of beds, and the availability of medical equipment. Monetary allowance and budgeting also impacts all aspects of this process. Current ACA and health care legislation can impact the hospital by defining regulations and indicating what standards of care must be met. Furthermore, this impacts the legal and human resources departments to adopt training programs that ensures the hospital and its staff are protected by law. There are benefits of working in a hospital as opposed to a small clinic because there is a larger staff and more advanced hierarchy, which means there will be more support in terms of training and collaboration with coworkers. Additionally, employee benefits, such as healthcare and retirement plans are typically more ideal in this setting.
