Audience Questions for Arguing a Position
What arguments will people who oppose my position have?
There are a lot of individuals today who believe on the positive effects of educational programming on the minds of children might say that keeping away the children from these electronic devises is a thing of the past, and that people today should be open to new innovations that are sure to provide them the chance to advance further when they grow up.
What can I say in response to these opposing viewpoints?
With supporting references, I could refer to the point that it is not the positive effects that is being avoided especially in consideration with this research. Instead, it is more on the developmental effect regarding behavior and the willingness to create that young children should be brought up into that this research is dependent upon.
What background knowledge will my readers have about the topic?
While there are supporting debates towards the ill-effects of television and computer programming on young-aged children, there are also foregrounding research on the good effects they have especially in stirring the children’s attention towards educational programs. The readers of this research may have such convenient way of accessing such information from the internet.
What information will I need to provide my readers?
It is very crucial that the readers know about the underlying effects of television programming and computer gaming points on children. True, there are educational programs, but not all of these have good effects to the early formation of the child’s brain. Specifically noting the fact that the traditional way of expanding the knowledge of children is still believed by experts to be more effective than the use of media at an early age should convince the readers that they are in need of understanding the crucial points of this research.
Will my readers’ age, gender, language, or culture background affect the way they respond to my position? If so, how can I best respond to these reactions?
Probably, age and gender would likely affect the reaction of the readers. Younger generations who have been probably exposed to computer and television at an early age may seem to think that there are really no wrong effects of the matter. However, older individuals [likely women] who have seen the difference of the discipline of the older from the younger generation today might agree to the idea that computer and television programming introduced to children at an early age does have a great impact on the growth of the young generation today.
Purpose Questions for Arguing a Position
What is my purpose in arguing a position? To change people’s minds, to get them to understand my position is a valid one, or to get them to do something?
The basic purpose of this research is to convince the parents and educators especially that the traditional way of rearing children through outdoor games and activities still stand to be a stronger course of development especially in relation to behavioral and emotional development. While television and computer programming seem to be a convenient way of teaching the children today, this research hopes to open the minds of the society to the fact that they have dire effects to the children’s growth as a whole.
Where in my piece will my purpose be evident?
In the discussion of the literature review, I shall make sure that the direction of the research shall be pointed towards the more specific thought of relatively showing how television and computer use among children should be balanced properly and that physical outdoor activities should be given way by every parent and educator concerned in the issue.
To what extent do I anticipate readers will resist accepting my position?
Understanding that we are living in the modern world, some might think that it is specifically naive to insist on a traditional way of learning when everyone seems to desire to embrace advancement. They could also argue that if the children do not get exposed early then they could be left behind by their peers who openly engage in television and computer programming appreciation.
Exigence Questions for Arguing a Position
What has made me interested in this topic?
Personally, media itself interests me and how it affects the human mind; all the more a young child’s mind. The notable fact that most parents today trust both television and computer to provide the children some good sense of early education challenges me to point out that the traditional way of learning for early age children still works better than the procedures that modern media imposes.
How long have I had a position on this topic?
Observing children and how they are directly intertwined with the digital culture that the world is currently under, I have been interested and had this position about the topic for about a year now but never really had the chance to explore the possibilities of researching about it until now.
Why do I want to persuade others about my position?
I especially believe that making others understand my position would make a great impact on how some parents and teachers or educators plan the ways by which they assist young children in their growth. Hopefully, in a wider scope, I expect that this study would put the children in better position to be disciplined and become mature in a more traditional yet more rewarding manner for their parents and for the society as well.
