High?Value Transitional Care, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 364

Essay

Advanced practice nursing introduces many opportunities for growth and development in the context of technology and systems development. It is the responsibility of nurses at this level to utilize the resources that are available to them to improve the lives of their patients and to integrate systems and technology into the workplace environment (Hamrick, Hanson, Tracy, & O’Grady, 2013). These practices will support an integrated and comprehensive strategy of care and treatment for patients in need and will support the ongoing demands of nursing practice at a high level (Hamrick et.al, 2013). Based upon these needs, nurses must be able to recognize the importance of information systems in improving their ability to provide excellent patient care and to be proactive in meeting the needs of their patients on a continuous basis.

Computer science, information science, and nursing science must operate in a cooperative manner in order to support a long-term approach that will have a positive impact on patient care outcomes. Advanced practice nurses must recognize their responsibility to their patients and aim to conduct research using prior evidence that is captured via various technologies. This process is particularly useful in obstetrics and gynecology as a means of learning about patients in this context and in supporting healthy pregnancies and births. When advanced practice nurses utilize the resources that are available to them, they are likely to learn that information systems will provide opportunities to evaluate additional groups of patients to make decisions that will have a lasting impact on the practice environment (Naylor et.al, 2013). This process will also support the integration of technology-based information and solutions into advanced practice nursing in order to be successful in developing diagnostic solutions to critical problems that impact health and wellbeing. This provides a learning curve for advanced practice nurses that will also influence new opportunities for growth within the nursing practice environment.
