Essay

Ingeo

History

This manmade fiber has first been experimented upon and later on developed by Natureworks, which is a subsidiary branch of Cargill Dow. This high tech fiber is noted for its production as it is a mixture of several cornstarches rather than using petroleum as a basic material for the said product. The carbon that is stored in plants in the form of dextrose sugar is extracted and are coagulated together to form piles of fibers that are often used for electronics, casings, films and now filament fibers for apparel. As the fashion industry tries to explore different possibilities of improving style and sustainability all at the same time, Ingeo is now being specifically developed for textile production purposes.

A few designers have already released their works that are highly recommending the use of Ingeo. As of now, Europe and specific parts in the United States are trying to fit the said garments in the market, which is gaining much appeal from worldwide “fashionistas”.

Specific Characteristics

This particular fiber is resistant to ultraviolet light, which makes it a good source of protection for anyone using a clothing line made from the materials that are designed to create Ingeo. It also has low rate of flammability and smoke generation. Noted for its being hydrophilic, it often wicks away moisture from the skin when it is mixed alongside other fibers such as cotton and wool.

It is also noted for being flexible and rigid making it more durable for heavy-duty clothes. Aside from this, the said characteristic also makes it easier to be designed for specific fashion details. This is particularly an important aspect considered by the designers as the fiber’s flexibility allows them to create clothing lines that fit the body’s couture without ruining the feel of the textile as other textiles do.

Sorona

History

First created by DuPont, this fiber is noted for its softness apart from other forms of polymers. It has first been introduced in the market as a form of industrial biotechnology that is supposed to be utilized by pharmaceutical industries. Nevertheless, due to the flexibility of the fabric’s function, the fashion industry plunged in to the discovery to see whether or not the said fabric could also be applied in practical fashion design.

Upon pursuing this desire, developers of the fashion industry found out particular characteristics that the fiber posses, which make it a feasible source of good textile that could be used for improved fashion choices for the general public.

Specific Characteristics

As discovered by DuPont, this fabric is soft and stain-resistant. With its high strength and stiffness, fashion designers found it to be easily manageable especially in relation to creating strongly structured clothing designs. Most often than not, fashion experts find SORONA to be one of the most important discoveries of the century especially in relation to the development  of fashion possibilities in relation to releasing new products that the market would not only love but also appreciate for the function that the fabric portrays.

Being stain-resistant and all, the fabric is also considered durable especially in relation to creating fashion that would appeal to the general population of consumers. Considerably, this form of durability allows the designers to create masterpiece fashion styles that do away with the need of creating possible options of cleaning as other textiles would require.

Spray-on Fabric

History

The course of finding for a fabric that would fit the body as a second skin has finally ended as the spray-on fabric is introduced to the fashion industry. Non-woven, it is sprayed and it stays on; this is what Fabrican is all about. What was a mere imagination for designers before has been explored and was proven possible by the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Imperial College in London.

With the use of aerosol cans, the team of experts specifically created this product for home décor. However, out of curiosity, fashion designers intended to use it otherwise, and the discovery actually works for human clothing. It is expected that in the coming years, more would accept the palatability of utilizing spray-on fibers for their clothing. As of now, the development of the product is continuously being pursued so as to improve the benefits it could provide to humans in line with fashion and style.

Specific Characteristics

This fabric is shapeless and can be easily managed by designers any way they like to. This particular characteristic is what makes it a good source of imaginative creativity for most designers worldwide. Being a spray-on, the fashion industry still tries to discover how its being accepted by the general public could be improved especially in terms of responding to the need of being able to re-use the created product from the “spray” fiber [as of now, this option is still being specifically researched upon].
