Historical Event: Michael Jackson Dies, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 261

Essay

The death of Michael Jackson in 2009 did not mean the end of his story. In fact, four years later there is a court battle being waged over his death. At the time of his death, Jackson was involved in rehearsals for what was supposed to be his big comeback. He was preparing for a series of about 50 shows at London’s O2 Arena, and as the world now knows, he was being put under anesthesia each night by a physician who was later charged and convicted in Jackson’s death. Currently, members of Jackson’s family are suing the concert promoters, claiming they were responsible for hiring the doctor in question, and should be held liable in Jackson’s death. The promoters claim that Jackson died for reasons that had nothing to do with the promoters.

Recent accusations against Jackson have also surfaced from yet another individual who claims he was molested by the pop star. It is difficult to know where the truth lies, as Jackson may have been a predator, or he may have been an easy target for lawsuits. What the current news about Jackson shows, however, is that in the age of technology and the Internet, the death of an artist does not have to mean the death of that artist’s career. After Jackson’s death a film was released that showed him rehearsing for his London shows, and there will likely be more films and music to come. With so much money at stake, control of Jackson’s legacy may be worth more than he could have made had he lived.
