History and Culture, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 349

Essay

From these sources, I have learned that there is an immense need to read history to learn about the different cultural practices we witness today. Without these different cultural practices, the world would have been a boring place to stay in.

Their ability to make music in water through the different taps has stood out for me. The ability to produce different types of frequency through the different slaps to make music and their ability to balance the water frequency and to stay in the water while doing it. I did not know that the Disney film Moana was going against the Polynesian cultural beliefs by depicting Maui as some stupid character. Still, in the Polynesian culture, Maui is a teenager who is almost becoming a man (Herman, 2016). Additionally, from this presentation, it is only right that we understand other people’s cultures deeply before uttering or doing something that may unintentionally offend the culture; hence, there is a need to learn more about history. The fact that there have always been misconceptions about women in the aboriginal culture being restricted from playing or even touching the didgeridoo is false, as some women have played the didgeridoo in a public ceremony. This misconception has existed because of comparisons within the different parts of Australia, especially southeast Australia, where the didgeridoo has been introduced recently, and the women there have been restricted from playing it (Barwick). The didgeridoo can be made out of different materials like wood and metal. The players differ from young and old and different races (Block, 2015).

The haka is a war dance performed during ceremonies. This challenge or dance is performed in a group as it displays the unity, pride, and strength of the Maori tribe.

I have learned the different cultural practices around the globe. I have also learned that culture holds societies together.
