History of Economic Disparity in the United States, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 257

Essay

In the United States, the schism between the poor and the wealthy has always been a great divide. The socioeconomic backgrounds created by  circumstance are largely responsible for the income of various families. However, the seemingly random fate of economic status hasn’t compromised the prejudices of the wealthy towards the poor and the poor toward the wealthy. This is the subject of the following essay describing the economic disparities and overall aloof attitude seen by the rich toward the poor and the overall resentment the poor have toward the rich.

From basic societal standing and the attendant rights that come with that standing to when and where people will sleep at night, the portrait of socio-economic injustice makes itself known on every street corner in cities across America today. The lower class of society has always suffered a negative stigma that is given tacit approval by the wealthy. This sense of economic injustice is certainly not simply making itself known in the 21st century, nor is it a product of any recent economic policy.

Today, we have found that the wealthy citizens of the United States are, in fact, guilty of insensitivity when dealing with the lower socio-economic classes. Any time a person of middle-to-higher income has seen someone sleeping behind a dumpster or perhaps waving one of those pathetic signs that read “Will Work For Food” and has done nothing, he or she has proven the point of this paper. There is no injustice more profound, no matter when you look throughout history, than man’s insensitivity to man.
