How Accounting Impacts Healthcare Industry, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Words: 277

Research Paper

Accounting is an important component of the health care industry because accountants are responsible for ensuring that the budgets of individual offices and health care centers are balanced. In addition, these individuals typically have knowledge of medical billing and coding that allows the physician to charge insurance companies for services as needed. Ultimately, the exact accounting services that are needed will depend upon the size of the firm, the type of organization, and the exact services offered. Health care accounting can also vary based on existing or changing legislation, and it is therefore essential for health care accountants to become aware of how this legislation will impact the organization’s finances.

Ultimately, accounting impacts the health care industry because it is needed to ensure that financial regulations are followed and that financial resources are being allocated appropriately. Some accountants work directly with the budget that large health care organizations maintain and the accountant can allow the administrators of these institutions understand how money could be distributed to meet the needs of the staff and patients. In addition, accountants can help hospital administrators determine where profits could be made in terms of resource allocation or acquiring grants or other forms of financial contributions. Typically, accounting knowledge benefits the health care industry because it allows the administration to gain a greater understanding of the overall earnings and losses incurred by the health care institution which will help them determine how the net income could be either balanced or weighted in a manner that generates revenue. It is important for health care accountants to be aware of all aspects of these financial processes so they could provide effective recommendations to the administration.
